Sultan Sharrief is a trans-media activist, educator, and social entrepreneur. His interest lies at the intersection of art, business, and community impact.
His directorial debut film, Bilal’s Stand, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. He has produced two other narrative feature films, Moozlum, (Danny Glover & Nia Long) and Destined (Hill Harper, Jesse Metcalfe, and Lala Anthony) as well as two documentaries: on Korean War veterans and a Detroit mural project.
He is also the creator and showrunner for the PBS show Street Cred’. He recently shifted interest to Virtual Reality and attended the Sundance Virtual Reality lab and the Oculus LaunchPad program and was accepted to a fellowship with the Detroit Narrative agency developing an interactive Virtual Reality short film as a type of civic engagement.
He is a board member of the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor Michigan. He was a two-year fellow at the National Center for Institutional Diversity to study how media impacts educational access. He is a guest instructor at the University of Michigan and a curator for the Cinetopia International Film Festival.
